SATURDAY WORKSHOPS: 12.30PM – 3PM
Carla currently teaches classes and workshops in South East London. Monthly workshops are an opportunity to work with a small group and practise a wider variety of yoga poses and techniques including yoga nidra.
GENERAL ADVICE ABOUT YOGA CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS Please fill in and return this health questionaire before attending your first class or workshop.
Feel free to attend without your own equipment as Carla provides props such as blocks, blankets and mats when required for those who are new to yoga. Until you make a commitment to yourself to attend regularly you are very welcome to use the class equipment but, over time, you may prefer to get your own kit. Wear something loose and comfortable and bring an extra layer so you can cool down slowly after asana practice and during relaxation.
Do not eat a meal before yoga – leave up to 4 hours ideally, but soup or a light and easily digested snack are fine for up to 2 hours before your class begins. Poses that involve twisting and compressing the abdomen are particularly inadvisable when you don’t leave this space, so avoiding food is also healthier for you and avoids discomfort in your practice.
Allow yourself a bit more time to settle into class/workshop if you can. If you arrive 15 minutes before the class start time, you can set up your equipment and relax so you are ready to start on time. Please avoid coming late if at all possible, mainly because it disturbs other students and is not ideal for you to arrive at your yoga class in an agitated state. This is time for you and you alone, so make the very most of it by either arriving a little early or close to starting time.
Workshops start at 12.30 unless otherwise advised. Please arrive anytime after 12.00 for tea and a chat with other students, or simply to lie down and relax. We often go for a social get-together in Crystal Place afterwards and this is a great way to get to know the other students. Please come along, if you have the time. Please enter the White Room overlooking the Lake via the side gate, which is open from 12.00.
Payment Classes run during the school term only. There are 3 ways to pay: Drop in – £11 per session (1.5 hours) 10 tickets – £100 (with a 3-month validity period) Term payment – £55 for 6 classes, £37.50 for 4 classes, £28 for 3 classes. Workshop – £25 Payments accepted via BACS - please contact for details. Payments can be made at class by cash or card.
Yoga nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. In lucid dreaming, one is only, or mainly, cognizant of the dream environment, and has little or no awareness of one’s actual environment. The practice of yoga relaxation has been found to reduce tension and anxiety. The autonomic symptoms of high anxiety such as headache, giddiness, chest pain, palpitations, sweating and abdominal pain respond well. It has been used to help soldiers from war cope with PSD.
Bring a blanket to cover yourself for relaxation at the end of the class. Carla will usually be able to accommodate if you come straight from work to yoga. All classes have a relaxation at the end of the class. Savasana (corpse pose) is an important pose to complete your practise. This may be in the form of yoga nidra,  mindfulness, or simply relaxation to music.
